About
Bonjour Mesdemoiselles,
Let me introduce myself, my name is Sylvie Lekarski. I’m French, originally from Bulgaria, and I sort of speak 3 languages, but none of them are perfect any more so please excuse my English in advance. Here is a space where I can express myself and share some of my ideas about fashion, and hoping you will react on them!!!
Traveling the world, thanks to my lucky job, as a plus-size model, made me experience quite a lot in fashion and interior decoration. Coming from Paris forces me to look for that classic French chic, that I love! But living in NYC and South Africa, has made me look at styles and fashion differently then the usual Parisian way.
Being a plus-size girl have been quite a challenge to learn how to dress and mainly finding interesting pieces, specially in Paris. But things are starting to change, since a new movement has come from the UK’s. Bigger sizes are starting to appear in shops, designers are making collections in NY, and even German catalogues are trying to become trendy in their bigger size range!
So NO, fashion is not only for skinny girls.
But mainly the idea of this BLOG is to challenge myself by showing you how to make yourself look expensive without spending much, Look trendy and still very chic!
We now have brands like H&M, Zara, Topshop and many others that offer us copies of the best items from the latest catwalk collections. So we can dress like Givenchy, Chloe, Balmain and the others of those expensive labels with spending almost nothing… but I guess if you are reading this line means that you probably already know quite a bit about it. I just want to be able to share some personal tips and ideas.
I hope you are going to like my style, and my personality.
But let’s start with explaining why I have been called the Gypsy, for the past 6 years I have been moving from town to town following the summer. Fashion catalogues shoot in countries where it’s summer, so models tend to stay there to save up some traveling, and work until the end of the season, then move to the next country. They will go from Paris to Milan, London to NYC for the shows… But for my career as a plus size model I have chosen Paris, Cape town, New York and for my holidays and family time, Bulgaria… so I’m hoping you will be able to follow me from all those places.
CAPE TOWN this is where we start our journey…
This is the place where I will be spending my next 4 months. Cape town is one of my favorite cities in the world. I have been coming here for many years. And I have been following the local trends, but never really found a style or a shop I love. I always found their style over dressed or too negligent, let’s find a middle way. The market is missing some the high street international brands, and even online shopping is not recommended. So the solution that I’ve found is saving up money and hunt in the second hands stores. I must say I have found really good items in the past, original pieces but you can forget about brands, it’s basicly old imports. Well at least you can be sure you won’t see anyone else wearing the same outfit as you.
There is of course new coming up brands that offer us some cool stuff, like Mango, Mr price, Foschini, Nine West, Aldo and many others. I will try to look for those special items you will be able to find in town.
But even though the seasons are opposed from the European’s one, and South African’s shops are used to get the bits left from the last European season. I want to change that. My goal is to inspire you to the latest high fashion trends that even Europe have seen in their streets yet.
So let’s get creative, loosing up and have trust in my vision. You got any questions, or any thing to say, I would be glad to discuss it with you.
Consider me like the voice of your wardrobe.
